Ultrasound dr. follow up

We had our Dr's appointment yesterday to go over the results of the ultrasound, and everything is wonderful! The only real difference between this pregnancy and the last is my placenta, which i described in the last post. This is such a fun change for me because i feel the baby move ALL of the time! I barely felt Asa moving, and when i did it was such a great feeling, but rare until the last 5 - 10 weeks.

The other difference between the two pregnancy's is by this time last pregnancy (4th appointment) i had gained 16 lbs!!!! I have only gained 2 so far. This makes me feel great because i know i am much more active and not such a couch potato :)

A few things that were 1sts for Asa over the weekend. He got his 1st kiss from a non family member, and he skinned his knee for the 1st time crawling up and down the hallway at church on Sunday.

20 week ultrasound...or so we thought?

We had our 20 week ultrasound today. As far as we know, everything is great. We have our appointment with our Dr tomorrow to go over the results form the radiologist. The ultrasound tech seemed in good spirits, so i am assuming all is well...

At my initial appointment at around 8 weeks, they calculated that my due date was October 3rd. When all was said and done at my appointment today, based on measurements, they put me at about 18 weeks 4 days. A few measurements measured right around 19 weeks, or 19 weeks 1 day, however, the main calculation of measurements put my due date at October 14th. It doesn't really bother me that the due date was changed, except for the fact that you want them to say, "oh, you are actually measuring right around 22 weeks." This way you have less time to be pregnant. I am just glad everything seems well with the baby but i'll update tomorrow.

Before the ultrasound they tell you to drink at least 16oz of water so that your bladder is full and pushes the baby up away from the pelvic area. About an hour before, i drank about 30oz. Mostly because when i drink a lot of water or eat food, the baby becomes more active, and i can feel it moving around a lot more. I thought drinking more would help it to be REALLY ACTIVE. Well, when i got the the appointment, my bladder was only like an inch thick. I couldn't believe it. I felt like i had to pee the entire appointment, and here she is telling me my bladder doesn't look full at all...what in the world? Also, just like Asa, this baby was in total chill mode. It moved a little, as in, it moved its head back and forth a bit, and moved its hand up and down a bit, but not much. Despite the fact the baby was very still, it was SO low in my pelvis, and was head down. She had to push really hard on my pelvis to get good pictures of the head. Baby was curled into what looked like a really uncomfortable ball with it's head pushed down into my pelvis. What a weird baby! The tech told us that her first baby was really still during the ultrasound, and he is a really mellow child, and her second baby was totally active and is a really hyper child. We figure if her predictions are at all right, that we will have a second baby just as relaxed and mellow as Asa.

Also, i have a posterior placenta. With Asa it was anterior, which in case you don't remember, meant that the placenta was connected to the front part of my stomach. They explain this as a slab of something like liver between my belly lining, and the baby, so it is really hard to feel the baby move, and takes really long to feel movement. With this baby, the placenta is connected to my back close to the spine, so that is where the thick tissue is. This explains why i have felt so much more movement and so early. I don't think i felt Asa move until close to 20 weeks, and it was minimal. I was already feeling this one move around 16 weeks. This is SO fun for me, because i didn't get to experience it the first time around.

Gotta love when little ones are growing inside you. Boy or girl, we can't wait to meet it!

9 MONTHS

Yesterday, Asa was officially 9 months old. I can't believe August 4th, was already 9 months ago...boy how time flies. Today we had Asa's 9 month check up appointment. Adam is still busy working on our deck, so we decided he would stay home and keep working and i would take Asa to his appointment.

9 month stats:
Head: 18 1/2" - 80%
Length: 29 1/2' - 90%
Weight: 20lbs 2 oz - 50%

All else was well. No shots this appointment which i think both Asa and I were happy about. We did have to go to the lab to have his finger pricked so they could check his hemoglobin and iron. The technician told me to sit on the chair where they draw blood with Asa on my lap. I had to hold his body with my left arm and his right elbow with my right arm. He said that i would have to hold tight if he squirmed. They pricked his finger, he let out a grunt, and then he sat still as a rock for about 5 minutes while they slowly took his blood down the straw into the container. Two other nurses came by to comment about how unbelievably good he was being having this done. They put a bandage on his finger and told me to leave it on for 10 minutes and to watch him because they always try to stick it in their mouths. He even advised me to sit in the waiting room for about 10 minutes before i put him in his car seat to bring him home. Instead, i put him in his car seat, and swaddled his blanket around his arm so he couldn't get to it, and about 2 minutes into the car ride home he was sleeping.


Asa is so close to walking. At least we think that is the case. He stands on everything and reaches for other pieces of furniture from the piece he is standing on and moves over to it. He also is so funny when he trys to get into things he knows we don't want him to. For instance, Adam really dislikes it when he pulls the cup holders out of the center counsel of the couch. Asa will reach into the cup holder, and pull out the holder itself, then look over at us and smile. Adam will say "No touch" and Asa will just laugh at him and proceed to pull the other one out while staring at us smiling. Adam can't help but laugh and try to say "no touch" with a straight face (It doesn't work). I asked our pediatrician about the "no" thing this morning, and he said, just save no for circumstances where he is in danger, because besides that he won't get it and will think it is a game.


Asa is such a good sleeper too. His bedtime is still 9:00 pm, but if he happens to be wide awake at his bedtime, we will lay him down in his crib, he will sometimes let out a few whines, but will put himself right to sleep and not wake up until about 8:00 am or so. Being that we don't have to take him to daycare, we will let him sleep in until he wants to wake up. This is very nice for both Adam and I! Because of this, i think is why he will stay up so late in the evening.

Asa is also SO smart! As i was sitting here typing, Asa turned on the TV with the remote by himself! He can give a high five, give kisses, and wave - although the waving is him shaking both hands and arms in the air violently. He can climb up stairs, which we don't have any he has access to, except the 6 stairs that are that of doggy stairs that go from the floor up to our really high bed. We often find him there if he is exploring down the hallway. We will look in his bedroom for him, and then look on our bedroom floor, only to find him sitting up on our bed, so proud that he climbed there "all by himself"


The pregnancy is going well. I am almost 19 weeks already, and we have our ultrasound on the 17th. We are going to wait until the baby is born again to find out if it is a boy or girl. We just feel it is the best miracle and surprise God could give us. I have a feeling it is a girl because i was sick this time, have not been gaining as much weight, and feel i am carrying much higher. I totally could be wrong, and could contribute the lower weight gain to chasing after Asa all day:). I have had so much more energy the past few weeks, and the pregnancy is going by MUCH faster then the last one. I can hardly believe i am almost 1/2 way already. Cravings: i crave some of the same things that i craved when i was pregnant with Asa. I always want Sushi, cheese, and any coffee cooler from anywhere (McDonald's, caribou, Starbucks...) These are things i shouldn't really even be consuming. I have developed a bit of a sweet tooth lately again as well. However, i am better at keeping it to fruit yogurt instead of ice cream. Although, i did take Asa and the dogs on a 8:00 pm trip to DQ last night for a blizzard. I only ate 1/2 of the small Reese's blizzard and left the other 1/2 in the freezer for Adam to eat. I feel much smaller in my stomach at 19 weeks then i did last time too. I know most people have told me that your 2nd pregnancy you show much quicker then the 1st, but unless i told you, most people would have no idea that i was pregnant, even when i am wearing tighter shirts. This is OK with me, because at this time my last pregnancy i had already gained almost 20 lbs, and i am still down 4 lbs...knock on wood. I also always joke with Adam about how i feel like people look at me and think, "Man, she must not have lost much of her prego tummy from giving birth to that 9 month old boy!" I want to wear clothes and swimsuits that say "yes, this is number 2", or "I AM having another baby."

Adam is doing wonderful as well. Busy Busy working on house projects, bless his heart. Every time he finishes one, i crack the whip and get him on another...haha, actually i am not that bad. Most of the time it is him that starts something new, or finishes something old. He is doing really well at work as well, selling lots of jobs and staying busy. He has already been with the company 7 months, and much praise is being said from the owners about how well he is doing. Who'd have thought he was such a natural salesman :)


The doggies are also doing really well. We put Chole on a diet about 4 months ago to get her to lose some of her chunk (she had gotten to be over 4 lbs when we had her weighed in February, which means she had gained a pound in a year...oops) I took them in today to be weighed and here are their stats:
Chloe:
February 23rd: 4 lbs 4 oz
May 5th: 3 lbs 2.5 oz

Caeda:
February 23rd: 3 lbs 12 oz
May 5th: 3 lbs 3oz

Crazy that Caeda finally weighs more then Chloe!

All in all, things are good around here!

What in the world

What in the world have i been doing to not allow me to post for the past two months...?

To be honest, nothing important, just been busy :) I think after about a week of blogging, it kind of became easy not to update my blog, and that week turned to weeks, and before i knew it, it had been 2 months. Once you go this long without updating a blog, it is hard to know where to start off again. Do i update you with everything that has gone on the past two months, or do i start off fresh? I decided i will give you a bullet update of a few highlights and then will just start a clean slate.

• Asa is crawling all over the place, and standing up on anything he can pull himself up on.
• Asa got his first two teeth. Both on the bottom right in the middle.
• I am feeling great at this stage in my pregnancy. No more feeling nauseous, and finally sleeping very well.
• Adam has been busy with work, and been doing very well!
• Asa is so long and big ( i feel) for his age. His hands are bigger then his cousins who is 16 months old!
• Asa can say Dada, sometimes Mama, can give a high five, wave bye bye, and knows and LOVES the puppies!
• Asa is also a GREAT eater. He is not picky, and will eat everything that is put in front of him in his high chair.

Our May project is to put in a deck, and this week Adam has his best friend Mike who has the week off and is going to help him out. I am excited for my first mother's day, and still love my work schedule as it allows me to spend so much time with Asa.

Now, after this long break of blogging, i think i will be back into the game!

Baby Ultrasound

We had our 1st ultrasound on Wednesday and got to see the little beans heartbeat. Everything looked great! Adam thinks it looks like a girl...haha! We'll have to wait until the due date, October 3rd to see what the baby is. Now our biggest decision is to figure out if we are going to have a VBAC or another cesarean. The dr said that we can do either, the only concern is that if we do a VBAC, my cesarean incision could tear. This usually isn't a concern if the scar has time to heal (longer then a year) and i will be at a year and two months. We will definitely be doing research and praying about it.

Projectile!

Tonight a little before 9 pm i was feeding Asa his before bedtime bottle. He typically eats about 8 - 9 ounces before bed, we lay him down and he drifts off to sleep in his crib within 1 - 10 minutes. Tonight right as he was finishing his last few sucks from the bottle i pulled the bottle out of his mouth, set it down, and was going to wiggle my arm back under his head to pick him up and carry him into his room. Right as my arm was just about under his neck, VOMIT spewed out! Asa has his occasional spit up sessions, which is sometimes up to I'd say 1/8 cup (I know...TMI) but usually is just a very small amount. This....well this was different! This was probably the bottle, IN IT'S ENTIRETY! It soaked his sleeper, and his sleep sack, it soaked my shirt, pants, and underwear, and soaked my sheet. Thankfully we have a waterproof liner under our sheet, but yes, the top of that was soaked too. I brought him into the bathroom to take my clothes off and when i took my shirt off and dropped it on the floor, it made that wet shirt noise. That noise that my clothes used to make when i would run in the rain and soak myself and come inside and take my clothes off in the laundry room wet shirt noise. Adam was at a sales appointment, so i laid Asa down in his crib while i frantically grabbed my computer and googled "What to do when your 6 month old projectile vomits" Almost every response told me to give him some pedialyte, or juice diluted with water. Being that we didn't have pedialyte (it is now on my shopping list), i made him a bottle with 1/3 juice and 2/3 warm water. When i made my way back to his room, i didn't hear anything. I went into our bedroom and looked at him on our video monitor, and he was sound asleep. Don't worry, i went in and checked to make sure he was breathing...and he was :) I will put the juice in the fridge just in case we need it tonight. Poor guy, but i am hoping it was just because he ate too much too quick or something. Say some prayers for our little monkey tonight!

6 Month Stats

Asa had his 6 month appointment today even though he was 6 months on the 4th of February. He is one healthy growing boy. Here are his stats:

Weight: 18.1 lbs. (50 %)
Head: 17 1/2 in. (50%)
Length: 28 in. (95%)

He is going to be one tall guy! He had 5 shots this time because he had to get his flu shot and his swine flu shot. He actually took his shots better this time then the last time. He screamed right when the first shot was given, but the nurse gives them so quickly that before you know it they were done. Adam picked him up right after, and he stopped crying. What a trooper!!

Asa is scooting all over the place. He sure can get where he is going quickly. He can sit up on his own and will get frustrated if there isn't something for him to play with in front of him or if he is bored.

I am feeling OK. I have definitely been feeling queasy, tired and just not myself lately. There are certain times of the day where i just want to crawl into my bed and sleep, and then there are others where i feel like if i change Asa's diaper, i am going to puke. I have been blessed this far and have not thrown up, so i hope that continues as i HATE throwing up! I also have been super dizzy when i get up from a laying down position, so i realize i have to take it slow getting up. I will be 8 weeks on Sunday, and my first appointment is a week from today. I guess this is adefinitely change from my pregnancy with Asa because i felt wonderful, not sick, and just really great. Oh the joys of pregnancy!

Adam and i did get to go on a date on Monday. We just lounged around the house on Valentines day, but wanted to do something on a less busy day. My parents watched Asa and we were able to go see Avatar (Amazing movie) and got sushi at Benihanas. It was VERY nice. Thanks Mom and Dad!

Finally, funny story, as i was "proofing" this post, i looked over at Asa laying on the floor, and he tooted very loudly, looked up at me, and started laughing. It was HILARIOUS!!!
